Toyota Goes Greener on 2010

With the gasoline price getting higher and global warming graver, Toyota will be launching a plug-in hybrid that uses next-generation lithium-ion batteries in USA, Japan, and Europe on 2010 as a part of the company’s extensive strategy to be green.

Plug-in hybrids can recharge their batteries through household outlets, run longer as electric cars when compared to regular hybrid vehicles, and use fewer petrol than even today’s most resourceful hybrid cars. All hybrids in the market today use nickel-metal hydride batteries. What’s good about lithium-ion batteries (the type presently used in cell phones) is that they are smaller yet they produce much more power. It was just recently that the automaker had developed a large enough lithium-ion battery capable to power a car. Good job for Toyota as they plan to set up more eco-friendly factories to lessen carbon gas emissions and improve manufacturing methods that consume less energy.
