Your First Taxi - Dealer or No Dealer?

If you’re thinking about buying a taxi, there are some different pros and cons you should consider when deciding who to buy it from. < a href=”http://www.voyagermpv.co.uk”>Taxis for sale from dealers can offer you a warranty, and you may have more legal rights if anything should go wrong after you’ve made your purchase; however, if you go the private party route, you’re likely to save some money.

Legally the seller must disclose all of that information but unfortunately not every dealer is scrupulous enough to do it. If they claim they never got the information or forgot, there is little recourse.

This is why it’s important to get the taxi’s history, including service records and parts bills. You should steer clear if the seller doesn’t have these, or says you can’t see them. It could be an indication that unacceptable parts have been used instead of the recommended ones for that model. Make sure that the work has been done by a qualified mechanic or dealer. If it has, and the records presented are legitimate and complete, you can be reasonably sure the taxi was properly maintained and otherwise taken care of. Before you buy, get a feel for whether this person is selling honestly and can be trusted.

Here are some questions you may want to ask the seller:

1) For how long did you own this car?
2) How many owner did it have before you?
3) Is the odometer reading accurate?
4) Why are you selling the taxi?
5) May i see the records of when the taxi was last serviced?

These are just a few of the most important questions you should find out about. You should also find out - and this is very important! - whether there are any outstanding money owed on this vehicle, to make sure that you will be buying it clear and free of the liens of any kind.

One important difference between < a href=”http://www.voyagermpv.co.uk”>taxis for sale from a dealer as opposed to an individual is that the “Sale of Goods Act” offers protection when the vehicle is bought from a dealer. The significance of the “Sale of Goods Act” is that – given the age and price you are paying for the taxi – it should be free of major defects. This excludes anything that you have asked about and was explained to you by the dealer. The taxi should be ready for your needs when you buy it.

The cab should be properly fit for the purpose of the purchase. If you are buying it to use it for it’s original purpose than it should be able to do so. Make sure to double-check that everything you were told isn’t false by checking the car by yourself. You can also purchase the report history to make sure that it hasn’t been stolen, has a clear title and has not been in an accident.

Make sure that engine is in good shape and also double check that the seller’s name is the same as the one on the title. Enjoy your new cab and make sure you keep all service paperwork for yourself in case if you will decide to sell it.
